Children’s Well Being

Children’s well being is at the heart of everything that we do at New End.

The impact of COVID-19 on children’s well being has been well documented and as a school, we aim to support all our children moving forward so that they grow into confident and happy young people and adults.

Unlocking Potential at New End
From November 2021, New End has created a partnership with Unlocking Potential (UP).
Unlocking Potential is a charity based in London. They work collaboratively with communities to enable children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs to unlock their full potential.

As part of their work, UP run a Schools Programme. The Schools Programme is a school-based mental health service offering therapeutic interventions and wellbeing activities to primary and secondary age children.

Isobel McCallum is our school-based team manager. Isobel has worked in schools previously and is also a trained play therapist. Isobel operates a number of programmes including weekly check ins with identified children; “Speak Up” where children can make a self referral to speak about anything they are worried about at school or at home; and “Six Times Talk Time”, a six week programme to support individual children. Isabel also monitors the work of two specialist therapists who do longer term therapeutic work with identified children.

Isobel is in school every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Children’s Mental Heath Week

New End marks Children’s Mental Health Week each year. Working alongside Unlocking Potential, New End encouraged the children to think about their Identity as a focus for the week. Children learnt about their identities and how this relates to their emotional well-being. Activities included using puzzle pieces to represent different parts of their identities, dancing to celebrate who they are, thinking about similarities and differences between their peers and recognising we are all individual and unique.
