The School Day2024-02-02T14:35:37+00:00

The School Day

New End operates a soft start in the morning.  Gates are open at 8.50am for children from Reception to Year 6.  Children move directly to their classrooms where staff are ready to start the day.

School officially starts at 8.55am.

The end of the day for children in Reception to Year 2 finishes at 3.25pm. (32.5 hours per week)

The day finishes at 3.30pm for children in Years 3 to 6. (32 hours and 50 minutes per week)

Children are collected from their designated playground.

The Nursery start time is 9am and the doors are open for part-timers at 12noon (15 hours) and for full-timers at 3.15pm (31.25 hours).

Assemblies

Assemblies involve the school community coming together to celebrate achievements and discuss important moral, social and school issues.  They provide time for the children to reflect on these issues.

Year group regularly (fortnightly)  have an assembly that focuses on celebrating achievement.  Children receive certificates to praise particular pieces of work, to praise a certain achievement or to praise positive behaviour.  In these assemblies a school based theme is also shared.

Class assemblies are also held throughout the year.

Breaks

Children have breaks in their learning throughout the day.  All children have a mid-morning and lunch break. During these times children are well supervised in one of our four playgrounds. We also provide equipment for the children to play with during these times so we ask parents and carers not to send in anything from home as we would not want to see anything lost or damaged.

School Meals

As an important part of the socialising process, children attending Nursery come over to the main school building and sit and eat a school meal together each day.

Parents and carers of children from Reception to Year Six can choose from two different options for their child’s lunch.  Children can either have a cooked lunch or bring a packed lunch from home.

Money for school meals is collected on via Scopay and can be paid in advanced on a weekly or termly basis.  The cost for meals is currently £2.52 per day.

Many families are entitled to free school meals and claim forms are available from the office.

Changing from school meals to packed lunch or vice versa can only occur after a holiday break.  Parents and carers must notify the school office in writing before the holiday.

If dinner money gets into arrears, a school meal can be withdrawn after notification until the arrears are paid.

We have a kitchen on site and staff who provide a hot meal, salad and bread everyday.  We work closely with the catering contractor to ensure that menus are varied and well-balanced – our school lunches are very popular!  Weekly menus are available in the main reception area.  We cater for vegetarians but not vegan, kosher or halal needs.

Parents and carers of children bringing a packed lunch to school must ensure that a balanced meal is provided.  We have a healthy packed lunch code which we ask everyone to follow – children are not allowed, chocolate, crisps, cakes, etc.  Water is the only drink allowed.

PLEASE NOTE :  New End has a strict no-nut policy.  We have several children who are severely allergic to nuts and we appreciate your understanding that we would not want to put their lives at risk.  This rule also applies to packed lunches on school trips.
